Swarni Dance Ensemble

The formation of the Swarni dance ensemble took place in January 2001. The founder of the group and current instructor is Andrew Pitek.  The roots of the group are formed by people born in Poland, while for the most part, the group is made of young people born in Canada, who became familiar with the highlander traditions from stories told by their parents and from movies. There is also “Mali Swarni”, the little ones, which hold the future of the group. The group partakes in many concerts and festivals grabbing the audiences’ attention with its remarkable shows as well as the top spots in competitions.

The group entertains their audiences with breathtaking programs of the cultural dances and songs from the highlander region, and shows filled with highlander traditions, such as the famous making of “oscypki”, a type of cheese. All program ideas are derived from tales of the past, coming from the people that were once shepherds in the highlands.
