Zespół Tatry

The TATRY SONG & DANCE ENSEMBLE was established in 1972 under the patronage of Holy Trinity Polish Church to preserve the thousand year old history of Polish Folk Art dancing and to encourage the Polish Canadian Youth of Windsor to be involved in their community through this unique form of dance.Currently the Tatry Dance Ensemble consists of 85 dancers divided into five groups.The Ensemble is an annual participant in the Multicultural Council Carousel of Nations and has performed at Polish Days at Ontario Place in Toronto, Windsor and Chatham`s Freedom Festivals, London`s Ethnic Festival, Amherstburg, Brantford, Kitchner and several cities in Michigan.Other performances worthy of mention were with the Windsor Symphony, an Italian Comedy play (La Passatilla+ at Giovanni Caboto Club, Windsor Public Library and various retirement homes in Windsor.For the third time in it`s history, Tatry have participated in the International Dance Festival held every three years in Rzeszow Poland. This has allowed Tatry the opportunity to be the (Ambassadors) for Canada, Ontario and Windsor. Just this July 2002 Tatry was one of 34 groups from around the world that participated in the ten day festival in Rzeszow . The ensemble was honoured to open the festival with six performances at various venues , each time presenting five dances.The Tatry Ensemble has numerous awards, trophies and diplomas for their performances and cultural presentations. In their repertoire, the Ensemble has these regional dances: lowickie, rzeszowskie, nowosadeckie, pohalanskie, lubelskie , kurpiowskie, warszawskie, sieradzkie, opoczynskie and others including Polish national dances v Polonez, Mazur, Krakowiak, as well numerous songs in Polish and English.In the spring Tatry Song and Dance Ensemble will celebrate their 30th anniversary. Our artistic director and choreographer Elena Kulaga has been trained at the University of Maria – Curie Sklodowska in Lublin Poland (Lublin has been the twin city of Windsor since 1999).
