Black Watch Association Band

In the fall of 2008, a group of pipers and drummers joined together under the leadership of Pipe Major Michael Maehle for the purpose of marching in the Cabbagetown Festival parade. Following this event, they decided to continue on as a pick up band under the name of the Cabbagetown Pipes and Drums.

Over the course of the following year and a half, additional members were invited to join the band.

In the winter of 2009 – 2010, the band elected to approach the Toronto Black Watch Association to consider affiliation with them. With several of the band members being ex Black Watch, and with 2012 being the 150th anniversary of the regiment, it seemed to be an excellent project to undertake.

At the April AGM of the TBWA, a vote was put to the membership and it was decided to form the alliance. Henceforth the band would be known as the Toronto Black Watch Association Pipes and Drums.

Permission was granted from Regimental Headquarters for the pipers to wear the Royal Stewart tartan and the drummers would wear the Black Watch tartan.
